Sri Lanka - The Paradise Island
Sri Lanka (/sriːˈlɑːŋkə/, /sriːˈlæŋkə/ or
i/ʃriː ˈlɑːŋkə/;[7][8] Sinhala: ශ්රී ලංකාව, śrī laṃkāva, Tamil: இலங்கை, ilaṅkai), officially the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, is an island country in the northern Indian Ocean off the southern coast of the Indian subcontinent in South Asia. Known until 1972 as Ceylon (/sɨˈlɒn/, /seɪˈlɒn/, or /siːˈlɒn/), Sri Lanka has maritime borders with India to the northwest and the Maldives to the southwest.
Sri Lanka's documented history spans three thousand years.[9] Its geographic location and deep harbours made it of great strategic importance from the time of the ancient Silk Road[10] through to World War II.[11] Sri Lanka is a diverse country home to many religions, ethnicities and languages.[12] It is the land of the Sinhalese, Sri Lankan Tamils, Moors, Indian Tamils, Burghers, Malays,Kaffirs and the aboriginal Vedda.[13] Sri Lanka has a rich Buddhist heritage, and the first known Buddhist writings were composed on the island.[14] The country's recent history has been marred by a thirty-year civil war which decisively but controversially[15] ended in a military victory in 2009.[16]
Sri Lanka is a republic and a unitary state governed by a presidential system. The capital, Sri Jayawardenapura-Kotte, is a suburb of the largest city, Colombo. An important producer of tea, coffee, gemstones, coconuts, rubber and the nativecinnamon,[17] Sri Lanka has been called The tear drop of India because of its shape and location and is known as "The Pearl of the Indian Ocean" because of its natural beauty. It is also known as "The nation of smiling people".[18] The island contains tropical forests, and diverse landscapes with high biodiversity.
The country has had a long history of international engagement, being a founding member of SAARC and a member of the United Nations, the Commonwealth of Nations, the G77 and the Non-Aligned Movement. It is also the only country in South Asia that is currently rated 'high' on the Human Development Index.[6]

All of us are human beings. I usually say that WE ARE THE SAME. No matter which kind of religion you follow, which color of skin you have, which language you speak. Because it depends. Depends on country you were born in, your upbringing, your surroundings, whatever. Al tough I usually say that we are all the same I've been experiencing amazing time living far away from home with DIFFERENT people whose behavior sometimes surprises you, sometimes pleases you, sometimes disappointing you, sometimes makes you think... And you can learn a lot from them.
I like Sri Lankan people. Of course they are not perfect. They are human beings. But I like these people very much. Want to know why? Short list of my observations is given below.
10 reason why I like Sri Lankan People or SLPs :)
REASON 1
SLPs are very friendly and usually smiling. They try to think positive. One interesting observation: SLPs forget bad things very fast. As one Sri Lankan friend of mine told me SLPs forget everything in 7 days. Good things as well :)
REASON 2
SLPs are helpful and generous. They always ask you "Did you have you lunch?" They're always eager to share. SLPs will never eat by themselves. If SLP has some food he/she will definitely share it with everyone around. If some SLPs want to buy an ice-cream they will buy ice-cream for all their friends.
REASON 3
SLPs like to joke and they have positive attitude towards life. I've never seen an SLP offended by a joke. Once I was a witness of how 3 boys were helping fat girl to climb a steep hill. More than 10 people were observing that and everyone were joking and laughing. And that fat girl was laughing together with them. And no sign of being offended.
REASON 4
If SLP likes someone he/she usually says "I love him/her so-so much!" and he/she would never hide his/her feelings. From the very first days of love affair they say that they will get married. But not earlier than in 5 years :) Unusual behavior for Ukrainians)))
REASON 5
SLPs usually call each other as aiya (elder brother), akka (elder sister), malli (younger brother), nangi (younger sister). And it's really heartwarming.
REASON 6
SLPs don't afraid to be ridiculous. They sing, dance, have fun and don't care about how they look like from the outside. They really know how to enjoy life.
REASON 7
SLPs have huge families. They love and cherish each other. This is hard to explain - you should visit Sri Lankan family event to feel this family spirit.
REASON 8
SLPs are very hospitable. They are eager to provide best things for their guests. And it's very hard to avoid eating in Sri Lankan house. They'll never believe you if you say you're not hungry. And they will definitely give you some food to take home.
REASON 9
SLPs are very sensitive. Even men cry when they're saying goodbye to the loved once.
REASON 10
Sri Lanka is a developing country. Some SLPs used to say the reason for that is their own laziness. Despite of this SLPs feel happy and they know how to enjoy life and be satisfied with the things they already have.
